Questions about Lake Titicaca

The things travellers ask us most. If your question is not here, send us a message.

How do I get to Lake Titicaca?

Puno is the town on the Peruvian side of the lake. You can fly from Lima to Juliaca, about 45 minutes from Puno by road, travel from Cusco by bus in 6 to 8 hours (our overnight bus transfer leaves at 10:00 pm and takes you to your hotel in Puno), or take the PeruRail Titicaca train. There are no direct flights from Cusco.

Is one day enough for Lake Titicaca?

One day covers the Uros and Taquile islands. If you want to spend a night on the lake with a local family, take the 2-day Amantaní tour.

How will the altitude affect me?

Puno is at about 3,830 m (12,570 ft). If you can, arrive a day before your tour, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol the first night and walk slowly. Tell your guide if you feel unwell.

How do I pay?

You can pay online by credit or debit card through WeTravel. You get a confirmation email, and your guide contacts you on WhatsApp before the tour.

Do you run private tours?

Yes. Any tour can be private, with your own guide and boat or van. Ask us on WhatsApp for a price.

When is the best time to visit?

May to October is the dry season, with clear days and cold nights. November to April is greener, with rain in the afternoons. We run tours all year.

Worth visiting We did the half day Sillustani tour from Puno. It was quite a unique trip. It involved almost and hour and a half drive each way. The guide, Jose, was very nice and friendly and took great care of us. It was well worth the time.

Highly recommended Did a full day Lake Titicaca tour with visits to the floating islands and Taquile Island. Fausto was my guide and he was very friendly and spoke perfect English. The tour company was very well organized and took excellent care of everything.
